Hair, nail, and makeup artists have long embraced app-based options
that make their services bookable nearly round-the-clock at the location of
a client’s choosing. But the spa industry is seeing the potential entry of
industry disruptors, like Soothe and Zeel, which make affordable on-demand
massage services available for lower costs and more flexible hours.
The booming prevalence of wellness apps and wearable fitness technology
are making it easier for clients to achieve their health and wellness goals.
Clients are discovering the not-so-satisfying effects that sugar has on the
skin and relying on spas to provide them with education and solutions.
Though airports have long been home to a few branded chains, this industry
segment is booming with an influx of new companies and spas. Additionally,
several skincare companies are partnering with airlines to provide services
in luxury lounges and skincare kits for first and business class, and many
airports are adopting healthier alternatives for travelers and employees.
From salt rooms and caves and healing Himalayan salt crystals used
in design to treatments that incorporate salt to dedicated salt spas,
this mineral is having a magical spa moment.
Traditional spa music is no longer the norm at many retreats. Nowadays,
spas are getting creative with the sounds that accompany services.
From rock and live music to massage tables that incorporate sound therapy,
spas are getting in tune with new musical ways to help guests unwind
and connect with their locales.
While yoga has become mainstream, many spas are introducing
exciting ways to mix up their yoga offerings. From combining yoga with other
fitnessoptions like ballet, cardio, kickboxing and paddleboarding to wilder
experiences that incorporate actual wildlife, yoga practitioners are getting
creative, and spas are taking advantage of the opportunity.
Honey continues to create buzz in skincare, with many
spas offering honey-infused treatments and even taking
advantages of on-site apiaries to further engage guests
and alert them to the troubling plight of bees.
On the heels of landmark legistation in California and several other
states, eliminating microbeads from skincare and personal care products
is becoming a bigger priority for our industry. As such, consumers are
demanding change, and several manufacturers are developing more
natural and healthier alternatives.
As farm-to-treatment-table services become more prevalent,
spas are making this trend more personal with on-site spa gardens,
where guests can both relax and enjoy nature and cull fresh
ingredients to use in their services.
